ALSD Spotlight Illuminates Industry Brilliance

The showcase for the venue marketplace brings the best in design-build to light.

ALSD Spotlight shone bright in 2017. The association’s inaugural design contest focused our collective beam on the best in pioneering design and experiences in the venue marketplace, providing our community with an opportunity to catch up with the frenetic pace of construction happening across all geographies, leagues, and sports. It’s an opportunity for our membership to showcase the very best its venues offer, and to learn from the successes of others, which is what the ALSD does best.

Contest entries flooded in over the course of the spring, nearly 50 in total by our May 31st deadline, far exceeding our expectations for the first year. Compelling stories and photography came to us from arenas, from ballparks, from stadiums, from colleges and minor leagues, from big leagues and performing arts centers, from the edges of the North American continent and from across oceans. This broad representation from every corner of the venue marketplace demonstrates the latest and greatest in sports and entertainment design, construction, and innovation.

Although a friendly contest, Spotlight is a contest nonetheless. We were pleased to announce winners for ten core categories at the Sports Venue Design & Build Forum, held during the 2017 ALSD Conference and Tradeshow this past July at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. The winners represent the full spectrum of the marketplace, including two NHL arenas, one NBA arena, two NFL stadiums, and two MLB ballparks, coming from four different time zones.

Project descriptions and photo galleries for the winning entries are now archived here on ALSD.com. Please enjoy the pictorial tour of our industry that displays sports and entertainment’s best-in-breed spaces and design accomplishments.

And while, yes, there are winners, this design contest will always remain democratic, sharing the spotlight with the entire community. All Spotlight submissions – project descriptions and photo galleries – can be viewed here.
