Following recent upgrades to multiple athletic facilities, the University of Colorado has received LEED Platinum status by the U.S. Green Building Council for three of those structures – the 212,000-square-foot Champions Center, the 109,000-square-foot indoor practice facility, and the Dal Ward Athletic Center.
The Champions Center and Dal Ward Athletic Center sit adjacent to Folsom Field, and now offer new premium seating areas for CU football games.
Additionally, the Champions Center houses a full-length football field and six-lane, 300-meter track. The Dal Ward Athletic Center upgrades include locker rooms, a new weight room, and new spaces for the Herbst Academic Center.
The signature element of the LEED-certified project is the 850-kilowatt solar array built on top of the indoor practice facility. It produces one million kilowatt hours per year – enough energy to power the entire facility.
The design-build team for the project included Noresco, Mortenson, and Populous.
